Gong Xi Fa Cai

Things that i associate with chinese new year; the colour red and gold, firecrackers cracking non-stop for a week from dusk till dawn, major discounts and sale everywhere, less traffic in KL, mandarin oranges, beating of drums and appearance of jumping dragons, red ang pow packets and especially for the year 2008, happy smiling people celebrating another new year for the THIRD time. its good to be in a multiracial society.

Wishing all my chinese friends, a happy chinese new year, just be gentle with the beers.

Happy New Year!

Hope everyone had a good New Year and hope everyone had a good time making their New Year's resolution. May 2008 be a prosperous, fulfilling and healthy year for all.

Glad to see this blog is active, even if it's sporadic.

A little news. Congratulations to our fellow 99er, Aida Sam (5Sc1). She has recently announced her engagement. A great way to start a new year.

Congratulations is also due to fellow 99er and blogger, Deb Low, for her recent graduation and is now a physiotherapist.

If anyone else is getting engaged or tying the knot or have any other exciting news to share, do get in touch with us.

Again. Happy New Year 2008.

Pavilion KL

The moment I stepped into Pavilion KL, I felt as if I was walking in to BBGS school compound. The main entrance was still the main entrance but without the breathtaking palm trees. The fully air conditioned place was cooling enough to bring down the heat in me from the walk I took to arrive there. Rows of shops replaced our classes and laboratories while the pathway was still reminiscent of our school corridors where we used to queue up after recess and when they have surprised spot checks!! HOHO..Anyway,the corridor is way bigger ,wider and longer now. Pavilion has 8 floors inclusive of a basemant car park. Well, they have so many floors more than our school. We only had 2 floors the most and the huge hall where we used to have ceremonies and assembly. Sigh. How I miss the old school days .However, when I entered Pavilion , I still feel I am visiting my old school.

Just what we needed, a shopping mall

Ramadhan = fasting
Fasting = Near Syawal
Syawal = need for new clothes
New clothes = shopping
Shopping = shopping malls
Shopping malls = Pavilion

Who haven't read about it?
(Elaine wrote a whatchamacallit just in case you don't know what Pavilion is and been living under a rock for the past couple of months)

Who haven't passed by it while driving on Jalan Bukit Bintang?
(I just did today...reminded me of QV and Federation Square in Melbourne. but somehow, i also saw , juxtaposed on it was our grand old school with its green lawn and lush palm trees)

Who havent been there?
(Me because i'm scared i just might take a chalk and start drawing Office Block and Clinic Block's front facades on the grey-polished-uberposh-boring-like-everyotherbuildinginKL-wall/windows facing Jalan Bukit Bintang)

Who is with me?

bah....

Fellow BBGSians, Pavilion Opening

I opened my Friendster today and received this bulletin from Elaine Yap. Thank you and Elaine for writing this lovely epistle.

As we welcome the new shopping
centre,Pavilion KL occupying the spot
where our majestic, beautiful school
once stood a few years back before it
was demolished. Located in Star Hill
road in the heart of KL's bustling
shopping district; it offers a wide
range of choices in retail experience,
food, beverage and urban leisure.
This building is said to be the world-
class urban development comprising two
luxury residential towers, a
corporative office block and a high
end boutique hotel which all together
add up to a total gross built area of
3.68 million square feet. WOW! Didn't
it ever occured to you, fellow
BBGSians that our school was situated
in such a huge and valuable land? The
1.4 million square feet of net
lettable retail space which house 450
outlets in 6 precincts -Bintang
Circle, Gourmet Emporium, Couture,
Connection, HOME and Seventh Heaven is
like reminiscent of our school days
where our school were divided in few
blocks; the prouse wing; above our
school canteen, the clinic block, our
school hall, gymnasium and great
majestic green field .It is kind of
sad to see our alma mater no
more;somehow replaced by this ultra
posh retail outlet. The main entrance
of the Pavilion reminds me of the main
entrance of our alma mater. Remember
the drive thru area filled with
lush, tall palm tress where our parents
used to drop and fetch us from school?
Well,I surely remember that everytime
I see Pavilion KL now. Remembering how
our school used to be then. When you
happen to be enjoying your shopping
experience at Habib Jewels or your
local dish from Madam Kwan's. Do
remember our alma mater, BBGS within
the walls of Pavilion,KL. In Loving
memory of BBGS, the alma mater that
which once stood at Pavilion, KL and
will always be in our memories.
From,
BBGSian, Class of 1999

BBGS Wiki Update

Just checked the Wikipedia stub relating to our alma mater, and I am pleased to notice that someone has taken the initiative to help update the stub. It's shaping out pretty darn good. Whoever you are, thank you so much for your contribution. Whoever's interested, here's the link to the stub: Bukit Bintang Girls School.
